Swine Flu: What You Can Do to Stay Healthy

There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Congressional Global Health Caucus Background

Dave is a co-chair of the Congressional Global Health Caucus. The Congressional Global Health Caucus is a bipartisan effort, which provides a forum for Members of Congress, congressional staff and the global health community to share information, dialogue and enhance understanding regarding the existing and emerging global health challenges facing the U.S. and the world.

Because of America’s indisputable leadership role and the tremendous resources the U.S. invests in maintaining a global surveillance network to keep U.S. citizens and the world protected from disease, Congress must also be informed and prepared to respond. This caucus will offer Members and staff the opportunity to learn more about global health challenges and strategies from experts in medical research, the private sector and global health organizations.
