The Earned Income Tax Credit or "EITC" is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families. Congress originally approved the tax credit legislation in 1975 in part to offset the burden of social security taxes and to provide an incentive to work. When the EITC exceeds the amount of taxes that you owe, it results in a tax refund - if you qualify for and claim the credit.
To qualify, taxpayers must meet certain requirements and file a tax return. Will you qualify for EITC this year? Find out if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) by answering some questions and providing basic income information using the EITC Assistant in English or the EITC Assistant in Spanish.
This tax season, the Walmart Foundation has partnered with United Way Worldwide, One Economy Corporation and the National Disability Institute to help educate consumers and provide free tax preparation and filing for the EITC. For more information visit: www.MyFreeTaxes.com/campaign/.
