"Any parent who balances the family checkbook, or small business owner who manages a payroll, understands that the government’s record spending levels are unsustainable and unacceptable." – Dave Reichert
For too long, there has been a culture of over spending in Washington, DC. These habits have dug us deeper and deeper into debt, threatening the strength of our economy and placing an incredible burden on our children and grandchildren. This cannot continue and it is my firm belief that one of my duties as a Member of Congress is to protect future generations from bearing the burden of our debt by putting an end to out-of-control spending.
Congress is entrusted by the Constitution to responsibly manage the use of taxpayer dollars, establishing both the tax laws that determine the amount of revenue collected and appropriating funding for public programs and essential services like Social Security and Medicare.
A prosperous future for our children hangs in the balance, and we must enact policies that support responsible funding of critical government programs, economic growth, and the success of our job-creators. Sound budgeting does not mean Congress should indiscriminately cut programs across the board. Instead, we must evaluate each aspect of the federal government and eliminate ineffective and duplicative programs so that our limited resources can more wisely be spent on what works. If Congress fails to make these tough decisions now, all of our citizens will suffer for generations to come.
Congress and the President must put politics aside and work together to do what’s right to ensure America remains the greatest country on earth.
Congressman Reichert is actively working in the House to:
- Rein in Out-of-Control Spending
- End Wasteful and Ineffective Government Programs
- Protect Vital Resources for Government Programs with Proven Results
